Grounded Before It Even Took Off!

I tootled down to this strange little model shop in one of the villages out of town. It opens at odd times, usually when the owner feels like it but I was in luck this morning. The plan was to continue work on my plane (read previous blog entries here) and the old guy behind the counter, although lacking somewhat in people skills was actually quite informative when it came to advising me on how to cover my model. I left with a mean black coloured roll of Solarfilm and high hopes that the plane would be nearing completion this weekend.

The instructions told me to start small, so I did. Successfully covering the tail and part of the fuselage, it actually look pretty good. Now came the wing. I took it slow as it was really really fiddly holding down the plastic whilst trying to avoid burning fingers and navigate an iron over the model. Crunch! the wing snapped in half. Deep breath. Calm down. Not to worry, the two halves can be spliced together later - I kept going. Crunch!, one half of the wing just decides to disintegrate before my eyes! It took me hours and I have never been so angry with myself as I was this afternoon. The hunt is on for a replacement wing, preferably one already covered.
