A Day Out at the Theatre

Well the play His Dark Materials yesterday, although a bit of a marathon (2h 40m for part 1 and 2h 20m for part 2) was very well done indeed (Lucky for us there was a 2 hour break in between the two parts in which we took up residence in Bath’s Jazz Cafe). It basically played out the whole of Phillip Pullman’s 3 books. Disappointingly they had to cut many things out else it would have taken forever to get through and more disappointingly they failed to show Lee Scorsby’s death. Never fear though, you can read it by clicking here as I blogged about it a long long time ago now.

Non the less it was very enjoyable to watch and mightily impressed at the clever use of slow motion when cutting between scenes and the interaction between puppets and projection during communication through the Lodestone Resonator. If you haven’t yet read the books, do so. If you already have, go see this play - its a damn sight better than the film.
