I have been using my bike a few times this week but only as a means of transport, getting from A to B that sort of thing so it was nice to finally get out on it purely for enjoyment and just for the sake of cycling.
As there were no flags flying Monday evening myself and Fi headed in the direction of the plain with the intention of exploring a few tank tracks we’ve had our eye on for a couple of weeks now.
It wasn’t long before we became lost and stumbled upon one of the many small abandoned villages that litter Salisbury Plain.

I found it rather eerie parking up the bikes and wondering round the deserted shells which were once buildings.

I’m not really sure what these building would have originally been but looking at the doorways on some of them they where probably something quite grand at one point and looking around inside theres some big old rooms all littered with graffiti of soldiers who have passed through. I wonder where these guys are now, I can make a pretty good guess.

Seeing these buildings reminds me of the famous deserted village on Salisbury Plain, Imber where in 1943 its inhabitants were evicted to provide training grounds for the military. Being a bank holiday it would have been accessible by the general public and its something I would really like to do. I did remember a week ago but it completely slipped my mind until it was too late.
Some nice photographs of the ghost village can be found by clicking here.
