Peace In The Pen

It looks like after a few days of panic and unrest, the new chickens have settled in to their new home and peace has once again returned. Ethel who had up until now had been on her own for nearly a month now obviously got used to her own company as she didn’t take kindly to the arrivals invading her space. This apparently is normal and I read that a few days of fighting and pecking may follow, which it did as the girls try and establish a new pecking order

They’re out for the first time this morning wondering around the top end of the garden. We had to clip their wings so they don’t go wondering too far. That proved a little challenging as we tried to catch the birds but we got there in the end. I don’t remember it being that difficult when we first tried out hand at clipping.

The eggs are starting to flow once again now everything has settled down. When we had two chickens the rate of eggs produced was just right but now theres three of them thoughts quickly turn to the many ways to cook an egg. Now wheres that first book of Delia’s gone?
