This afternoon we took a nice long walk with everyone from the Highway Cycling Group and explored some of the old abandoned buildings out on Salisbury Plain. I had previously visited these particular houses whilst on a previous cycle ride one summer’s evening last year. You can read about it here.
I love finding old places like this, although in a state of disrepair some of them (and usually riddled with bullet holes!) you still get the feeling that theres a great deal of history here and as you stand quietly amongst the old shells which were once houses here on the Plain, you can certainly feel it.
The flags were down today so the military were having a day off from training which allowed us to enter the area. As these buildings are used to training purposes these days you see a lot of tale tale signs that squaddies have passed this way. The most notable sign is the graffiti all around. I managed to photograph a number of them and made an album. Just click on the the thumbnails below to view the bigger picture.
