We invest a great deal in our pets here at Whitworth Towers whether large or small, feather or fur and thats probably why they’re so well behaved and give so much back in return. So its really sad when they move on.

Our little engineering gerbil, Isambard Kingdom Brunel hadn’t been well for a few days now and became such a frail old thing rather quite suddenly. We had to administer antibiotics to him via a syringe and I had gone last night to do this only to find he was asleep as usual but his breathing was even more shallower. I gently picked him up and held him in my hands, speaking to him all the while only to have him open his eyes before he slipped away. It was an extremely sad moment but I’m glad I was there when it happened rather than find him cold the next morning.

Although only a little gerbil, he was our first pet who had such a personality to him and will be greatly missed.
