I found a number of plastic cogs in one of my many workshop drawers of stuff which didn’t belong anywhere, not even my Meccano or Technic collections. They were ideal badge size though unfortunately they were very unrealistic looking due to their colour - bright orange.

Cracking open the acrylics I proceeded to paint them a more metalic worn texture which instantly took me back to those Games Workshop days of painting Ork and Eldar. The only good thing to come out of such an early teenage experience was a knowledge of bizarre names for paint and an appreciation for dry brushing.

And dry brushing added the perfect finishing touches to my cog badges giving them a great worn texture.
