The Old Pocket Watch

I have to say that time is my biggest enemy at the minute, its as if I’m constantly battling against it in an attempt to tick as many things off my daily list.

One good thing about time though is the creative instruments built to measure its passage. The most imaginative I’ve seen lately would have to be the Corpus Clock, blogged about here. I am also a massive admirer of Harrison’s longitude watches, of which I have gazed through their cabinets in Greenwich many times.

The most decorative timepiece I currently own takes the form of an old wind up pocket watch.

It works a treat, only losing five minutes in a week. Not bad for an analogue solution. It has a glass back allowing you to view the goings on inside which I find hypnitosing as its amazing how something so complicated and small was ever made. Harrison, a skilled carpenter originally made his clocks out of wood of which one is still in operation today.

Note to self: clocks go forward tomorrow.
