The last week has seen us call upon the skilled and generous services of many a friend which wouldn’t be so bad if I could return the favour. Unfortunately, unless they want a wonky shelf putting up with nails sticking out of it or bodged attempt at fixing something with the heavy use of a glue gun, I’m at a loss.
For example:
We have finally got a new bathroom suite (again care of generous friends) to replace the old bog and bits in our rather embarressing bathroom. This has always been the worst room in the house even when we moved in yet its turned out to be one of the last areas to do up. Its so shameful that whenever we have guests the Whitworth’s have to be a little tight with the drinks to prevent trips upstairs to the room of horror. Moving forward like a healthy stool and more friends have been round to assess and to formualte a plan of attack to install everything. My role in this plan will come under the title of ‘Unskilled Labour’.
I continue…
Then last night the car decided to play up, revvvvvvvvving like a complete loon and forcing me to drive in a high gear to control my speed. I got some really funny looks as I passed through the village (but thinking about it, most of the people in the village look funny anyway - I put it down to poor breeding) with the car making a tremendous racket only to park up a couple of hundred yards away from my front door. Luckily the ever so helpful neighbour saved the day (yet again) and after a quick lesson in car mechanics, the Rocket was able to complete the commute home similar to the final race scenes from Cool Runnings. It was all down to that thing that hooks up to that other thing. Luckily I hadn’t shaved for a good few days so the beard played a vital role in being stroked whilst the bonnet was up, thus giving the impression that I knew what was going on.
Man, I wish I had learnt a trade, some skills I can pass on or genuinly help someone out with. Working with computers is still a skill I guess but not necessarily a trade. In the meantime though I’ll continue to get by with a little lot of help from my friends but feel guilty for it.
