Seconds in Life

I recently read a nice post about how a father, interested in photography dedicated much of his free time to photographing his family and how he referred to his photographs as “seconds in life”. You can read this short and sweet post here.

I love reading blogs that inspire and this is no exception. I have a 5 year old neice who I see about three times a year due to the distance we live apart but every time we meet I capture about 15 minutes of video of her generally just being herself and I have been doing this from the first time I met her shortly after she was born. The plan is to present her with my compilation on her 18th birthday but even now the video collection is building up to be something which is very interesting to watch.

Now that myself and my wife will shortly be proud parents, its got me thinking again about long term projects similar to my neice’s video. I would quite like to take a photograph a day of my child, I think that would be a good thing to do but I wonder whether the high volume of photographs taken would over shadow the few which would have captured a rare or significant moment in their life. Is it better to have many which individually aren’t terribly significant but collectively are or a small collection of sentimental images all meaningful in their own little way? Discuss.

How about a weekly or monthly photo instead of a daily one - maybe in the same place or pose so the changes are more obvious? I think it would make a great project…xx
