Eat Your Postcode

We are very fortunate to live near a rather impressive farm shop by the name of Planks. It has a wide range of food available and a really nice craft corner and coffee shop. We went there today to take up residence in the coffee shop, stuffing ourselves silly whilst reading the papers.

The craft corner is just like an old fashioned Etsy before the days of the internet, local crafty types selling their creations. Its all very Kirstie’s Homemade Home although debates are still raging on as to whether Kirstie actually made any of the things she filled her house with but instead got other people to do it on her behalf. If you saw the recent series you will know what I mean.

We then took our full bellies and waddled round the shop buying locally sourced produce. Ok, so they don’t produce everything they sell but they come pretty close. I love it and as well as buying better quality, the prices especially of the meat is a great deal cheaper than the bigger supermarkets - thats great news with the arrival of the bbq season. I recently heard that farmers only receive 9p of every pound spent in the supermarkets so shopping at farms like Planks ensures more money is pumped back into the local economy.

If you’re conscious of where your food comes from and are keen to reduce your food miles then it makes sense to shop local. Eat you postcode people, you know it makes sense. I think a sketch is called for.
