Its seems to be extremely busy lately as we race to get things completed before drop date. What was once an embarressing bathroom has been stripped back to the brick work and rebuilt from scratch. The first shower was taken this week and it makes life so much easier compared with the whole process of trotting out to the outhouse to get cleaned up. It also buys me an extra 5 minutes in the morning which is great. A big thank you goes out to the people who help us and to the makers of No More Nails without you guys it wouldn’t have happened. I have visions of No More Nails having a life span of about 20 years and as a result will start to loose its grip. Theres an apology penned behind the false wall I had to build saying sorry for any short cuts taken. I hope it puts a smile on any future resident’s face when its discovered.
Now its the turn of the nursery which after some very kind donations from family and friends has filled up nicely. Theres a couple of things still to unpack and assemble but the wife’s nesting instinct should be kicking in shortly so that will take care of that. After the long wait which followed the initial excitement of the news, its a nice feeling to have the excitement build again. The NCT classes have finally finished (I didn’t enjoy those much but luckily the wife granted me a ‘Get Out of Jail Free card’ which helped ease the suffering - unfortunately I made the mistake of playing it too early and no amount of limping or claiming illness later on could convince her to skip Baby Club for a second time). Incidently, the record to the hospital still stands at 24 minutes door to door although I’m sure there’ll be opportunities for a couple more test runs over the next few weeks.
I’ve also cracked open a new moleskin and am getting practice in journal keeping so that I can record each precious moment during the early years. Its hoped that it will turn into something of greater meaning than the mountain of photographs I will no doubt collect over time. I found myself suitable inspired when I discovered a nice little book. Titled How to Make a Journal of Your Life it goes thoough the basics and teaches you to value everything around you. I would definately recommemend picking up a copy if you can. The author Dan Price has built himself a Hobbit like home. You can see a few pictures of it here.
