Never Tell A Lie, Its Bad For Your Health

One of our favourite things to do on a Sunday morning is venture down to the neighbouring town of Devizes and set up camp in one of the nicer coffee shops there surrounded by magazines, papers and fine snackage. While we’re making the most of our free time until the baby arrives in a few weeks time, this morning we did just that.

Outside the coffee shop however is the market square which is home to a couple of monuments. I’ve always paid little attention to these when passing in the past, I’ve even sat on their steps on a couple of occassions inches from their plaques but I’ve never actually taken the time to read what they say. Well today I did and was rather surprised at what I found. Take this one for example, which records the fate of Ruth Pierce, a woman who died suddenly after telling a lie at market in 1753.

Devizes is also home to quite a few chavvy individuals and if this is the council’s attempt to make them behave, I don’t think its working much. If I were you Mr Council man, you’re best off punishing them by removing sovereign rings from the Argos catalogue, that’ll teach them.
