Go Buy Some Books

I’m liking lists at the moment, almost to the point of obsession. I see from reading a couple of posts recently that people have put together lists of books which have inspired them and I thought I would list a few which I’ve turned to recently to get the creativeness flowing.

How to Make a Journal of Your Life by Dan Price.

This is a great little pocket sized book which I have lent out to a couple of people. I find this book hugely encouraging and recommend it to anyone wishing to start documenting their life. You can see the author in his Hobbit like home here.

Design It Yourself and Design It Yourself Deck by Ellen Lupton.

These were recommended by a friend a couple of years ago. They’re both full of design projects detailed in a how-to-do style format. They cover a huge variety of areas including t-shirt printing, packaging, invites and web design.

How to be an Explorer of the World and The Guerilla Art Kit by Kerri Smith.

I have recently discovered this author and have a few books be her. These are my two favourite at the minute as they both teach the reader to view the world from a different angle. Go read her blog.

1000 Artist Journal Pages and 1000 artist trading Cards

If you ever need instant inspiration then these books are for you. I’m never bored of picking them up as I always seem to find something new in them.

Whatcha Mean What’s a Zine? by Esther Pearl Watson.

This book is an introduction into the world of zine production covering everything from drawing, printing, posting, binding and distribution. great if you’re thinking about starting one yourself but not sure where to begin. Also check out the We Make Zines site too.

Badge/Button/Pin by Gavin Lucas

I’ve included this just as a bit of fun really. Its nice to flick through this book and see some of the best and funky designed badges being made by people at the minute.
