Free Fruit Map

Whilst collecting apples for last year’s cider making attempt, I soon realised that once you start looking theres an abundance of free fruit around here just waiting to be foraged.

I had already mapped the trees we had collected our cider apples from but whilst out on my ride earlier this week I noticed theres many more apple trees out on Salisbury Plain, all a different variety to the next and all free for the taking. So taking out the iPhone (recently upgraded to iOS4 which took an absolute age by the way) I started to plot the positions of these new trees and have added them to my map. I’m still left wondering how they came to be out here and can only assume its down to the wildlife carrying the seeds. Although as I have written about before, its thought that the line of apple trees in the neighbouring village to mine came about from the discarded apple cores of WW2 soldiers as they arrived at the camp.

I think this will be a really good incentive to get out and about on the bike and I’m thinking it won’t take long before my foraging map starts to really take off and grow in size especially if I start including other fruits as well as apples.
