Sleeping Man

The library used to be one of my wet weather spots for people watching and drawing but I haven’t done it for a while. Yesterday though I found a seat and started to draw an old guy who had fallen asleep.

I was going to leave it for him on the arm of his chair for when he woke up but I thought that might creep him out a bit so it remains in my notebook. I might build on this, drawing people who use our library for other purposes like drawing or sleeping.

What I also enjoy about drawing in public places is watching the people walking by. They try so hard not to make it obvious as they strain their necks to see what I’m drawing. All they need to do is just say ‘hello’, sit next to me and I’ll show them.

Calling All Creatives

I’ve been wanting to try out an idea thats been brewing in my head for a while now. It involves notebooks, lots of notebooks and hopefully many creative individuals.

Regular readers will know I’m a massive notebook fan and I’ve even made some pretty interesting books in the past myself too. Recently I’ve made a pile of matchbook notebooks and its these that I would like to send out to people who request them. I would then love it if the recipients of my mini notebooks were to return them to me filled with drawings, doodles, ideas and thoughts. I think this would make a great little art project for all and it will be really interesting to see people’s different take on it. But my main aim of this idea is to inspire and encourage people who wouldn’t normally put pen to paper.

If you would like to take part please drop me an email at jez.whitworth [at] hotmail [dot] co [dot] uk with your postal address and I’ll pop one in the post for you. I have made a mountain of these but theres still the risk of them running out so best drop me a line quick to ensure you get one.
